Non-Disciplinary Records

If students complete all components of the AIM Program, their record will be changed from disciplinary to non-disciplinary. A non-disciplinary record is an information-only file in the Office for Community Standards. The information would not be reported to someone conducting a disciplinary background check.

Expungement

The University of Minnesota has a Records Retention Policy indicating that a student conduct record be retained for seven years after graduation or last date of attendance. The University of Minnesota will release disciplinary records to third parties, if given permission by the student. For the Twin Cities campus, this Expungement Petition is to be used to request an exception to this policy and have the disciplinary record changed to non-disciplinary. Non-disciplinary records are not reported to third parties, even with the student's permission.

Examples of Academic Integrity Matters (AIM) Agreements

  • Contact your instructor and/or TA to acknowledge this incident, take responsibility for your actions, and apologize.
  • Develop a list of campus resources that you would be able to go to for assistance with your assignments/papers.
  • Meet with an International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) counselor to discuss personal, career, and/or academic issues.
  • Meet with a University Librarian to discuss plagiarism and how to avoid it.
  • Enroll in the Avoiding Plagiarism Course. Once you have self-enrolled, it will be added to your Moodle page.

AIM Community Meetings

AIM Community Meeting Structure

Community meetings include student participants and university volunteers (faculty, instructors, and staff). Through a facilitated dialog, student participants explain what happened and how their actions impacted others. University volunteers/community members discuss the impact of scholastic dishonesty on the University of Minnesota and the broader community. Student participants and community members then create a plan for the student to repair the harm that their actions caused.
